"Through neglect and hardship, Hope never stopped deserving a second chance."

Hope, a frail tan puppy with severe hair loss from mange, sits inside a plastic transport kennel on a blue paw-print blanket, looking directly forward with wide, vulnerable eyes.

A ROUGH START

Hope, formerly known as Piglet, arrived at the shelter as a stray in critical need of help. The facility that found her didn’t have the resources to treat her, even though her conditions were curable.

Her body told the story: mange had left her with more bald patches than fur, her skin covered in open sores, and she was dangerously underweight. Rescuers renamed her Hope, a small promise for the road ahead.

A PATH TOWARD HEALING

Hope, visibly thin and frail from severe hair loss, stands unsteadily on a white puppy pad inside a wire playpen while eating a nutrient-rich meal from a metal bowl.
A side view of Hope curled up tightly in a kennel, revealing the true extent of her neglect with extensive hair loss, severe skin crusting, and open sores across her back and shoulders.
A close-up profile view of Hope being held by a rescuer wearing blue protective gloves, highlighting the severe crusted mange, raw skin, and deep hair loss along her neck and head.

Little is known about Hope’s past, but it’s clear she needed more than medical treatment, she needed time, patience, and the chance to finally feel safe. An experienced foster family stepped forward to take her in, ready for whatever the journey would ask of them.

Her care plan includes weekly medicated baths, topical ointments, and pain medication to keep her comfortable. Her meals are being reintroduced slowly and carefully, since feeding an underweight dog too much too soon can do more harm than good. Her path forward is one built on skin care, gentle nutrition, and time.

LEARNING TO TRUST

In her early days of foster care, Hope kept close to her crate, only leaving to relieve herself before retreating back to her bed. It’s a caution rescuers know well, the quiet hesitation of a dog who hasn’t yet learned that not every hand is one to fear.

But with every bath, every dose of medicine, and every gentle moment, Hope is slowly learning she’s safe. Her mange will heal. Her body will grow strong. And rescuers believe she’s on her way to becoming one of their greatest comeback stories.

A rescuer gently cradles Hope wrapped securely in a bright blue blanket, showcasing her crusted skin and a quiet, watchful expression as she begins her healing journey indoors.
